About Us
OUR MISSION
is to help restore the self-confidence in women who have had a mastectomy in a
comfortable, affordable and convenient fashion.
After my bilateral mastectomy, I just wanted to feel like myself again and be comfortable.
I really needed some wardrobe essentials.
This is how The Busted Tank® was born.
The Bust (breasts) ed Tank (close-fitting tops).
I was diagnosed with DCIS in April 2017 after my routine mammogram and subsequent biopsy.
I was 45 years old.
I underwent 2 lumpectomies in the following weeks - the second still with positive margins.
I was told I needed a mastectomy of my right breast. I was stunned.
After much deliberation of how to move forward, I opted for a bilateral mastectomy in June 2017.
I chose not to have any reconstruction and was at peace with my decision
although I longed to appear like my old self again.
It was a struggle for me to find anything comfortable to wear which had a faux breast appearance.
Nothing really fit my ideal.
I also felt I had earned the right to never put on a typical bra again.
I sewed many different shirt and padding designs at home until I finally realized that
a simple design was what I needed.
I envisioned making a comfortable, affordable and convenient shirt
for every woman going through this dilemma,
and with the loving support of my family, I am thrilled to bring my idea to fruition.
